You know when you’re a senior in high school all you think about is prom and graduation and well for most students this is the year where you have the most fun, isn’t it? Well Oneida Vargas is not your typical senior, yeah she is excited for prom and graduation but for right now she has many other things to take care of before that.
She is currently a senior at Benito Juarez High school who is always busy and I mean always! She never stops! She is a swimmer, she has a job, she is currently enrolled in a program called Chicago Scholars on Saturday mornings, and now she is also doing some planning for a fundraiser for brain tumors. How does she do it?
“By not sleeping!” she laughs.
Oneida has been on her school’s swimming team for the past 3 years. She loves to play all types of sports.
“I’m not very good at most of them but I enjoy playing them,” she said.
Her senior has been hectic for her so far.
“My schedule has been changed and now I have catch up with all my classes,” she says.
But she isn’t letting that get in her way of achieving her goals. She knows exactly what she wants for her future , she plans on studying sociology with a minor in physchology. Also knows that she is going away for college even though she doesn’t know where exactly to she wants to go.
At the end of her day there are only two things she is looking forward to her senior year; graduating in white and attending prom despite thew cost.
“I’m not very excited about the expenses that prom will be causing me!” she said.
